Environmental Stewardship

One of the most central tasks we've been given by God is to take care of the world around us. As a church community, we live into this commitment daily:

Waste Reduction

Come to an event at First CRC and you won't see paper or styrofoam cups but ceramic mugs which is one way to lessen the waste as a church community.

Food

All our meals at Community Night are vegetarian as this lessens our environmental impact and allows us to extend the table for more to join as we are more stewardly with our funds. Some of the food we eat even comes from our community garden!

Coffee

We love coffee and we especially love the J.J. Bean coffee we sip each week. This is a way for us to enjoy coffee with a conscience as it limits the social and environmental impact of coffee bean production.

Compost

We compost food scraps from both Community Night and our coffee social. Climate Witness Project

Climate Witness Project

We are participating in a CRC initiative called the Climate Witness Project which seeks to educate our church family and encourage them to make sustainable choices in their daily activities. Pastor Julia and Lindsay are the regional organizers for this initiative.
